Eat, hot tub, and back into the water. Now the sun has come out and its a beautiful afternoon to do a favorite site; Row and Be Damned. The current was still moving along when we got in, but gradually subsided as we enjoyed the incredible invertebrate life of this wonderful site. Its a combination of a bolder garden, small ledges and larger walls all covered with bright red strawberry anemones, Crimson anemones, sponges of every type, tunicates (sea squirts), yellow nudibranchs in large numbers, Ling Cod, Rockfish, friendly Kelp Greenlings, large Puget Sound King Crabs, Heart Crabs and many other critters were also spotted there and on the rest of the dives.Like so many times before, this time we something new; everywhere was a profusion of balls of fish eggs and we saw some very pregnant rockfish wallowing about, looking like they were going to pop. I shot macro mostly and my dive buddy Doc Kay got bored after a while, so I just soloed the rest of the dive, and just floated along between shots, lying on my back looking at the surface and enjoying the other divers going by. This was a very pleasant way to pass a small milestone, as this was my 300th dive! The rest of the weekend was much of the same, one awesome site after another, sometimes wet and windy, sometimes nice. With the good viz. we really enjoyed the giant walls of Copper Cliffs and the deep overhang and wall on Steep Island. The last dive was on the north side of Whiskey Point, where a few of our group did find an octopus, which while not giant, served to pull our group home to many happy memories of diving in Campbell River. |
